Open Door Housing First provides permanent supportive housing for chronically homeless individuals. Housing First is a nationally-recognized best practice for addressing chronic homelessness. Housing First offers safe, permanent housing and wrap-around supportive services as quickly as possible and with extremely low-barriers to entry. Open Door owns thirteen Housing First units with plans to expand this program to include scattered-site units in 2017. Housing First residents are chosen based on assessments that rank a person’s vulnerability and chronicity; those with the greatest vulnerability and highest need are prioritized for entrance into Housing First. Open Door was awarded a grant from The Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Continuum of Care program to provide 20 new Housing First units in 2017.
