Permanent Supportive Housing

Since 2012, Open Door has had a Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) program. Open Door PSH utilizes the Housing First approach.

Open Door Housing First PSH Timeline

In 2012, Open Door housed two residents in a small house next door to our Community Center.

In 2015, Open Door received a grant from the J.T. and Margaret Talkington Charitable Foundation to build five PSH duplexes.

In 2016, Open Door moved residents into the new duplexes.

In 2017, Open Door increased our PSH program to include a total of 24 units, including units we own and other available units in the city.

In 2017, chronic homelessness dropped by 52% in one year thanks in large part to increased PSH at Open Door and other organizations.

In 2018, Open Door expanded to add at least 15 additional units of PSH in scattered-site apartments throughout the city. By the end of 2018, Open Door will house more than 40 of Lubbock's most vulnerable neighbors.

Open Door has set the goal of ending chronic homelessness in Lubbock by 2020.
