How It Works

Stories from Survivor Housing Participants

Survivor Housing is a Joint Transitional Housing and Rapid Rehousing program.

Joint TH-RRH provides two distinct housing interventions to provide a safe place for survivors to stay (TH) with financial assistance and wrap-around supportive services to help them move into and maintain permanent housing (RRH).

The Transitional Housing (TH) proportion of the project acts as temporary, safe housing for survivors. The safety and confidentiality needs of survivors, coupled with financial and housing barriers, often prolong the amount of time it takes for survivors to secure safe, permanent housing. Transitional Housing offers survivors safe, short-term housing and trauma-informed services while working to connect them to permanent housing options.

The Rapid Rehousing (RRH) portion of the project seamlessly maintains the supportive services provided in TH and provides financial assistance for survivors moving into and maintaining permanent housing. In RRH, survivors live in private apartments leased in their name and pay a portion of their income for rent and utilities while receiving temporary financial assistance to cover the remaining cost. By the end of the assistance period, one of the big goals is for survivors to be able to remain in their own permanent housing.
