2 - Grab 5 Teammates
Decorate your bed with a fun theme and then 4 runners push while 1 teammate rides. Teammates can be anyone! Friends, co-workers, family, church members.

3 - Sprint to the Finish
Race down the track in a short, high-energy dash. Beds race one-one-one with the fastest time moving forward. Awards for fastest-time, most creative, and audience favorite. Rough distance: 2 circle laps - 1,950 ft | 594 m | 0.37 mi; 2 figure-eight laps - 1,760 ft | 536 m | 0.33 mi

Team Guidelines and Race Rules

Event Details

  • Teams of 5 people race decorated beds on wheels in a short sprint-style event to raise funds supporting housing stability and beds for neighbors in need.

  • The Hub City Bed Run turns creativity and fun into real impact. Every team helps Open Door provide beds and housing support for neighbors in our community.

  • Yes! Spectators are encouraged and admission is free.

  • Yes! We will have a variety of food trucks, raffle prizes, live radio, and Caprock Classic Car Show.

  • Spectator and attendee parking will be clearly marked when you arrive to the venue.

    Venue: 6111 82nd Street (Monterey Church of Christ)

Team Details

  • Each team includes 5 people: 4 runners pushing the bed and 1 rider.

    Bed racers must be 14 years or older. Participants under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

    All participants must sign a safety waiver and wear a helmet and closed-toed shoes while racing.

  • No — the race is short and designed to be fun and accessible.

  • Businesses, churches, friend groups, college organizations, and families.

  • On-site check-in location will be communicated the week of the event

    Teams should arrive by 10am for check-in and a bed safety inspection.

  • Yes! Kids can cheer on the teams, or sign-up for our Kid’s Fun Race which will take place between bed race rounds.

    We will also have food trucks and a Caprock Classic Car Show for spectators to enjoy.

Race Details

  • No — while prizes are awarded for things like creativity and time, the event is family-friendly and meant to be fun, not just competitive.

  • It’s a short sprint race — not a long run like a 5K or marathon — so it’s fun and accessible for most people.

    • 2 figure-eight laps - 1,760 ft | 536 m | 0.33 mi

  • Teams will race two at a time, one-on-one. Fastest time advances.

  • Yes! We will have prizes for:

    • Fastest team

    • Best decorated bed

    • Best team costume

    • Crowd favorite

  • Races will happen in rounds throughout the event. A detailed schedule will be available the week before the event.

Registration Fee

  • Teams commit to raising or paying $500 to secure their spot. You can split this among team members or use fundraising tools we provide, including a personalized fundraising page.

    • Initial registration deposit is $50.00. Teams may fundraise, pay the full amount up front, or use a combination of both. Minimum paid/raised must be $500 in order to participate.

    • Registration closes on April 5, 2026 and minimum of $500 is due by April 5, 2026.

    • A personalized fundraising page is provided for every team.

    • Kids Fun Run is $25 (includes t-shirt). Spectators enter for free!

  • Teams can simply pay the $500 entry fee instead.

  • Many teams:

    • Split the cost among teammates

    • Have their company sponsor them

    • Share their fundraising page with friends and family

    • A personalized fundraising page is provided for every team.

  • Yes — you can recruit your business, club, or church to sponsor. You can also reach out to Open Door to see if a sponsor is available (no guarantee).

  • Registration closes on April 5, 2026 and minimum of $500 is due by April 5, 2026.

Bed Logistics

  • No. Open Door can provide a bed base on wheels for your team. We will deliver it ahead of the event so your team can decorate it. If you enjoy building things, you’re welcome to build your own bed, but most teams simply decorate the one we provide.

  • No — teams build and decorate their beds before the event and bring them ready to race. We can help provide a bed base and wheels if you need one.

    Teams are encouraged to pick a theme and decorate the bed and wear coordinating t-shirts or costumes!

  • Beds will be delivered to teams ahead of race day so you have time to decorate it.

    The bed base with wheels is 44 in tall, 90 in long, and 36 in deep. Head and foot board can be detached.

  • You do not have to decorate the bed, but teams are encouraged to pick a theme - decorate the bed and wear coordinating costumes/t-shirts.

    This does not have to be complicated Teams can simply add some color to the bed and wear coordinating t-shirts.

  • Teams are responsible for bringing their decorated bed to the event location on race day.

    Teams will receive specific parking details prior to the event. Parking will be very near to the race area.

  • You can build your own as long as it follows the race guidelines and safety rules. Click here to read the full guidelines and rules.

  • No - Open Door will breakdown the beds and reuse them as needed.

    Even though we plan to reuse them, you can still make modifications and paint the bed if desired.
